About Us
Two Hawks Quarterly (THQ) was begun in 2007 by a bold and talented group of creative writing students in the BA Program at Antioch University Los Angeles. Within a few years, the journal was attracting and publishing work from writers all over the world. Students continue to provide the life's blood for THQ, which has become a formal endeavor of Antioch University's creative writing concentration. Now published digitally twice a year, Two Hawks Quarterly remains dedicated to publishing exquisitely crafted fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and works that defy easy genre categorization which we call Genre X.
Faculty advisers, Deborah A. Lott, MFA, (Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters) and Caley O'Dwyer, MA, MFT, (Summer quarter) with the strong support of Alistair McCartney, MFA, oversee the journal. We pride ourselves on our transparent and democratic review process, with submissions read by at least one faculty adviser and three students, and many works discussed passionately and read aloud in weekly editorial meetings. We're not impressed by cover letters, or where a writer's been published in the past, only by the power of their words on the page. From its inception, Two Hawks has been dedicated to publishing works that spark debate, challenge readers' expectations, and take risks.
