Visual artist and poet Carmen Germain lives near the Salish Sea in the Pacific Northwest. She is the author of a chapbook and three poetry collections: These Things I Will Take with Me, The Old Refusals, and Life Drawing. She has been a visiting artist/scholar at the American Academy in Rome, and holds degrees from the University of California-Santa Cruz and The University of British Columbia. In the Intuit mirror-image series, acrylic as water color allows design to happen without predetermining the result. Details are added afterwards. The process is free from the tyranny of the blank support, just as the process of free writing releases poems from too much conscious meddling.
