Shadow Studies by Eric Pankey

A magnetic field, a force field

A field guide

How soldier becomes solder and solid

The soul the size of a seed, the size of a tick

How the humid air condenses upon it

How the soul, free from flesh, glistens with dew

The starlings are startled

Out of sorts, out of socket

Watercress, water crest, the water’s rest

How a cotton dress on a line

In Rogers, Arkansas dries as a thunderhead gathers

The newer paved roads are not on the map

How the earth rotates on it axis while in revolution

The ax is, the axes, the axis

Follow the fallow field

Tip your hat brim if you see a flash

To protect yourself against the fall out
