Geraldine at Age Ninety-Six by Teresa Gillespie

She had a mystic quality in her last days,

still proud, wandering among acres of rust,

one of the last, impatiently waiting

at the Buenavista station.

Out of the old roundhouse,

the only survivor of a magnificent lineage,

a true Texas nocturn,

beautiful in an unaesthetic manner

before the steam age crumbled,

knowing her next stop

would be the end of the line,

for wonders yet to be encountered.
