I Asked God by Carol Tyx

after Kaylin Haught

I asked God if there would be a reckoning
with torturers when (if) they made it
to the other side and she said
I’m guessing you’d like to see some payback
and I said Something along those lines
and she said That’s not my department
and I said What do you mean?
and she said It’s all love here
not syrupy sweet fuzzy love
but deep doubledown love
and I said Can I be transferred
to another department?
and she said There is no other
department.
